Patty's Day

Let's do a quick run down of the holiday.

Because, really, who wants to hear a ton of explaining about St. Patrick's Day? But since this blog is my strangely-public family journal, I feel I must post about the holiday.

The girls and Orrin set up the trap for the Leprechaun (Porter was sent to bed early for locking Orrin out of the house... and then not letting him back in).

Let's be honest: this trap was probably the least impressive of all the traps we've made before.

The Leprechaun obviously didn't care for someone trying to trap him, so he pulled a prank on the Merrill kiddos.

He strung their undies up downstairs for the world to see.  And he left a trail of underthings down the hallway and stairs.

Silly Leprechaun.

He also did his annual walk across the kids' faces.

There was the normal St. Patty's breakfast feast.

That night we had the annual Shepard's Pie feast.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patty's Day

As per tradition, we set a trap for that rascally leprechaun.  We even made it pretty this year.

Here's a better view of the trap.  I know that it is so awesome that you want to study it closer.

And what does one use as Leprechaun bait?  Skittles, of course (Taste the Rainbow.  Duh.).

And for breakfast?  Lucky Charms!

Also, there were some awesome mustached-straws.

The sneaky little leprechaun got away, once again.  This time he cut the top of the trap into strips and braided them into a rope.  Yeah... that must have taken awhile.  And probably gave that little green man a paper cut.

He then gave into peer pressure and left us a surprise in the toilet.

He also took his traditional stroll across the kiddos faces.

Yup, that's a blurry pic.  But it the only one I got of those green footprints on anyone's face.

For dinner, Whit and Chris dropped in and we shared shepherd's pie with a green pepper clover on top.  Did you know that the St. Patrick worked as a shepherd after he was kidnapped and enslaved?  Well, now ya do!

Oh... and to get all educational on you: the three leaf clover signifies the Holy Trinity.  St. Patrick used to used those lil' green clovers to teach others about three in one God.  Boom!  I just slapped some information down on you.

Yeah... this pic was taken on my phone and for some reason it refuses to turn the right way.  Oh well.

For dessert we had Shamrock Shakes.

And they were delicious.  If you like mint (that was a dig directed at you, specifically, Christopher).

Greenies

So last night before the big Irish holiday, the kiddos set traps for the tricky little leprechauns

Why? 'Cause if you catch one, you get to keep their pot of gold. Duh!

Piper and Adi spent a lot of time designing and setting their traps.

Which, by the way, I forgot to get a picture of.

Porter colored a picture and pretended to glue Skittles onto it (he mostly ate them though).

Did I mention that we had a visitor? Uncle Hyrum came to see us... errr, or really, someone special (which I absolutely cannot disclose).

In the morning, the kiddos were disappointed to see that the smarty pants little man escaped from their formidable traps.

He also did a victory dance across their faces.

And he died the eggs, milk and butter green.

Happy St. Patty's Day to ya'all!
