Working, working

Lately I've been a-working. You know, on this new house of ours.

I am like an artist creating a masterpiece on a canvas.

Or I am merely a Mom trying to get a house decorated and painted.  But the artist one feels more magical.

And it is a slow-moving project.

And a very time-consuming one at that.

Eventually, I got to this:

Have I mentioned that I got my lovely hubby to build me this ginormously huge shelf? It must be true love, baby.

I'm not quite finished styling the shelf (I have my eye on the perfect clock for the end right there).

I'm slowly repainting the entire house (well, almost the entire house) this gorgeous Revere Pewter color.  There are, of course accent walls.  Actually, have you seen my chevron wall?  If you are super-cool and follow me on Instagram, you would have seen it.  If not, here's a pic for your viewing pleasure.

Please ignore that little extra blue spot on the white that isn't supposed to be there.

So wish me luck on my painting endeavors.  I am not quite finished with the main floor, and I still have the upstairs.

So, so many bathrooms to go.

The Beginning of the Season...

Not only am I pulling out and dusting off the Christmas decorations, but I'm also dragging out the Christmas Digi-Scrapping kits again.

Yep, it's time for Days of Christmas again.

Hopefully I'll be able to finish all 25 days this year, although I'm willing to give myself a break if I don't!

Anywho, for our first day of Christmas, and in grand Merrill tradition, we set up the Christmas tree while watching White Christmas.

I love that movie.

Then Miss Adi topped the tree with the shining star...

Spooky Decor, Part Uno...

Please forgive the awful photography, but hey, it's what I got!

What do you think of our Witchie Table Legs, Whit?

EEEEK!! A giant spider....

Oh, it's just preserving the pumpkins...

Here's the witchie area. I didn't realize that the pic was out-of-focus when I took it...

And a close-up of the ingrediants "for sale"...

Ummm, I think Spiders have taken over the house.

Yep, they have.

I nearly killed myself getting this lovely up here, so please enjoy it.

I'm digging the spider webbing- such a cheap way of setting the haunty-mood.

And we ain't finished yet...

There's still the outside!

A room fit for a cowboy...

I've been a'working on this boy's room for a while now, and I think that I am finally ready to call it done. Porter's room is about the size of a small walk-in closet, but it's just right for him...

P.S. This is my favorit-ist room in the house right now!

And the best part about it: Porter is such a little clean-freak that the room rarely gets messy.

Well, he's a clean-freak about his own room. The girl's room he LOVES to destroy...

What else I've been doing lately....

Some more thrift shopping.

I think that I just may be addicted. Awesome prices and so much potential!

Anywho, I found this desk at the D.I. Two spray paint cans later we had this (no before pics, sorry. That would require forethought :)

Last school year we had issues as to where Adi should store her backpack. No problems this year, thanks to my local thrift store, $2, and a can of paint:

And last, but certainly not least, I attacked this old bubble gum machine with some left-over paint and got this:

Just you wait to see what else I've been painting...

Decorating, Girlie-Style

Here's a glimpse of what I've been doing in the girlie's room- I am far from done, but my sis wanted an update...

First, here are the masterpieces, painted by me and the girls on some old canvases of my Grandma's. And the vinyl writing? Created on my new love... my mom's Cricut!

Ok, here's the curtains. The curtain rod I got for an awesome deal on Walmart.com (check out their Site-to-Store). Then I just tied some tuelle onto that (hoping for a tutu-kind-of-look). The rose garland is from Roberts on clearance for 50 cents (wahoo!). It lookes kind of strange, so I put these girls above it to hopefully look like they are wearing a tutu... not sure if that worked or not.

Oh, and I wrapped some pink tuelle around a cream lampshade and hot glued some roses and ended up with that lamp.

My mommy got the bedding for the girls at Target (notice the adorable bed-skirt). Let me tell you that the mostly white comforter is a pain to keep clean with Adi and Pipes! The hangy-curtain-thing (anyone know what that is called?) is from Ikea... only $7.99...

So that's what I have done so far. I still have big plans to repaint all of their furniture... we'll see how far I get on that!

The Decorating Itch...

It's taken me eight months, but I'm finally feeling like doing some decorating, and once I started, I haven't been able to stop...

I haven't taken pics of everything since I only have a little bit of everything done, but nothing entirely. So, here are two things that are actually done-

#1: My picture wall. No house of mine can be considered a home until I have my family montage up. Thanks goes to Whit for the "Memories" frames....

#2: I've repainted a few things, but this is my favorite so far. I'm trying to add in a casual, beachy sense to the decor, and this end table looks perfect for that! OP thinks I distressed it a bit too much, but I'm in love.

I'm working on repainting the computer desk right now, and then it's on to the girl's bedroom furniture (wish me luck)...

Redecorating; Digi-Style

I've been looking for a new way to decorate the girls' room lately that would keep the same colors I've got going on now (I have way too much pink and brown to replace all of it).

Why? You may ask....

Because I enjoy hearing Orrin groan when I bring up redecorating a room, that's why ;)

Anyway, I was shopping at Tangie's Big Birthday Sale when I came across these beauties here and here. I could suddenly feel those long-unused decorating wheels start a'turning in my head (the poor things have rusted).

Wouldn't it be great to do something a little more vintage-y, borderline-Victorian in there? I also have this strange fascination with Emily Post, so I dug up a few quotes from her 1922 etiquette book and came up with these:

I'm going to frame them (probably in white) and hang 'em up (11x14 maybe?). Quick and inexpensive way to change their room!

Oh, and stand-by, 'cause I also bought Tangie's Giddeyup cowboy kit to do some things on Porter-Pot's wall!
